Born in the Ivy League town of Princeton, New Jersey up and coming rapper/emcee Young Jerzey aka Tahaj Humbert
has always been surrounded and influenced by hip-hop before he could
speak. His uncle Bobby “Fine” Humbert is an underground hip-hop veteran
who’s penned classics with giants like YZ, X-Clan, The Fuschnickens and Bun B to name a few was signed to Rick Rubin’s American Recordings in
the mid 90’s. Jerz’s father Borne “#9” Humbert was a bells ringing
street legend and up & coming rap giant in the Garden State when he
was taken from an 11 year old Tahaj abruptly in March of 2005. At such a
young age he was able to comprehend death but not understand how the
effects of not having a father around would come into play as he got
older. He devoted most of his time developing his skills in sports and
other athletics. In between football & basketball season or riding
his skateboard Young Jerzey would hear random instrumentals and started
writing rhymes just for fun. By age 14 he recorded his first song called
“Can’t Guard Me” and even shot a no budget video for it. As he got
older he yearned for the guidance and influence of his Dad because the
streets were starting to call Young Jerz as well. So reluctantly but at
the request of his mother he moved to Houston to live his Uncle and his
family to get back on track. It was there he really started to play with
the idea of following in his father and uncles footsteps and become an
emcee and thought maybe he’d be the first to make. When he moved back to
Jersey the following school year with a renew sense of purpose and
focus he immediately started implementing his blueprint for having a
successful music career.
